(Taken from my first blog post; it seemed more fitting than what I had here previously.)
I've been sitting on the sidelines of this whole blogging thing, as if I'm waiting for someone to ask me to dance. Starting a blog is a little scary, but life seems to fly by faster and faster, and blogging can be a way to savor and share beautiful moments in life. I guess I will follow this path and see where it leads.
A little about me. I'm a mama of two, E (5) and N (3), and wife of my dear D. I shy away from committing to particular parenting philosophies. We take what makes sense for our family from various schools of thought--attachment parenting, free play, child-led learning, appreciating nature, protecting the environment, and the like, and leave the rest. Realizing that most parents love their children and want what's best for them. Although I have found parenting a tremendous joy, it has been a struggle too. It's hard to imagine a life experience that teaches you more about yourself.
I enjoy being a homebody. Cooking, making almost anything from scratch (sometimes successfully, but with plenty of interesting failures...like bagels!); gardening, back when we had more than grass in our yard; crocheting, when I can find a spare moment; sewing, although I'd call myself an advanced beginner; photography, except my digital camera is ancient and leaves too much to be desired. I like the idea of "crafting" and making things by hand, but that is a new path for me as well, hence the name of this blog, Learning as I go.
I also enjoy traveling. I lived most of my life overseas on two different continents and feel very at home on an airplane. I feel great love for the two countries where I spent much of my childhood, they both opened huge new worlds for me and I am so grateful to my parents for giving us that experience (although I didn't always think so at the time!).
We live near Washington, D.C.
